on finding a box and stamping

From: i_am_seo (igotahunger@hotmail.com) | Date: 2007-12-12 00:50:31 UTC
Hi I'm a new letterboxer and I was wondering if I have the process
down. (This might be a silly question:) If I go to a box, is it okay
for me to use the box's stamp in my own notebook? If so, do I need to
wash it off somehow? I can't imagine someone else wanting their stamp
getting stained but I suppose if it dries it's okay? Thanks so much!

I am new as well. I found these Getting Started links extremely
helpful. Pretty much answered my questions, hope they are helpful!

Yes, you stamp YOUR stamp in the box's notebook (log), and you stamp the BOX's stamp in your notebook. If you carry a damp paper towel with you in a ziplock bag, it will make it easy to clean off the box's stamp before you put it back in the box. It's a kindness to the next person who visits the box, so they don't have to clean the stamp before they use it.

I find that Baby Wipes work well too. I am so scttered that sometimes
letterboxing just happens. Baby Whipes live in my car and I generally
have a roll of paper towels too. It helps to have one of each to clean
and dry the stamps.

I am only going by what I am seen on here several times, but do NOT use baby wipes on the stamps that are in the boxes! The smell (even unsented ones) attract animals that might tear into the box! Now on your personal stamps use them if you got em, though after time they will break down certain stamp materials!

I'm always forgetting to bring along a damp paper towel or damp sponge to wipe the stamp on. Instead, I ink and stamp the letterbox's stamp into my personal logbook then I stamp the clue printout several times until the ink fades away before putting the stamp back in the letterbox.
